Bevelyn Williams Mitchell - Why Advocacy is So Important in Today's Society

BIO:

Bevelyn Williams Mitchell is from Islandton, SC, a small town in the Lowcountry region. She earned a Bachelor of Social Work from South Carolina University in Orangeburg, SC, and a Master of Human Services with a concentration in Management and Organizational Leadership from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Throughout her professional career, Bev has been actively involved with several community organizations in Horry and Georgetown Counties, where she has been able to serve underserved communities. She considers her work as a ministry and has worked with organizations such as Mercy Hospice, Careteam, a local HIV/AIDS service organization, and The Horry County Rape Crisis Center.

Bev has served on various boards of directors, including The Shepherd’s Table Community Kitchen in Conway, SC, the Horry County Human Trafficking Task Force, Mingo Creek Academy for at-risk boys in Georgetown, SC, and South Carolina Women in Christ Ministries.

After serving 16 years with the Rape Crisis Center, Bev retired briefly before accepting a position at Coastal Carolina University as the Assistant Director for Interpersonal Violence & Prevention and Services. She and her family have lived in Myrtle Beach for 25 years. Bev enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, gardening, and cooking.

Bev is married to Gregory Mitchell. They have two adult children, Mitch and Ashleigh, and an adorable 8-year-old grandson, Trey.
